Somerset Dam
The Somerset Dam and reservoir is located at the headwaters of the Deerfield River in Stratton and Somerset. While not a Hydroelectric facility itself the dam serves an integral role in maintaining consistent flow in the Deerfield river.
The Dams on the Deerfield River were constructed in such a way that each station requires less water to operate than the station above it. This ensure that no dam is starved of water which increases the overall efficiency of the river. Somerset Dam is the fist link in this chain which is why its so important.
The reservoir covers 1,623 acres and is 5.6 miles in length. It sits 2,133.58 feet above sea level and has 26.58 feet of storage which is managed seasonally.
The shoreline of the reservoir is entirely undeveloped. Environmental laws protect its shore and require a minimum flow for the flora and fauna living in and by the river below it.
