Reservoir: It covers 2,184 Acres, and is 8.0-miles in length, sitting at 1,480.66 feet above sea level with 57.66 feet of managed storage.
-
Generation type: Conventional hydropower
-
Hydropower type: Diversion, the Harriman Dam diverts water to its generators through a 2.5-mile long, 14-foot diameter concrete-lined tunnel.
-
Output: The Harriman Station has 3 Francis turbines which output 41 megawatts of power at full capacity.
-
Spillway: Harriman Dam features a unique style of spillway called a morning glory spillway. The spillway was one of the first of its kind and operates similarly to how a drain in a bathtub does but for the whole reservoir. The spillway is a180-foot-deep concrete funnel with a 160-foot-diameter rim (can be seen in the picture to the left). In the event of a flood, the overflow drains into the spillway at a rate of 30 million gallons per second.
